What to Expect: Our Ear Piercing Procedure Step by Step

January 10, 2026Bruna

The entire procedure is carried out with full respect for the family's and the client's pace and comfort. Here's a detailed look at what to expect during your appointment.

Preparation

I begin by explaining each step of the process to the family, then I sanitize my hands and prepare the table with all sterile materials. After cleaning the ear, a topical anesthetic is applied, which requires a waiting time of approximately 40–50 minutes to take full effect.

During this period, the baby or child is free to play, eat, or even sleep — none of these activities interfere with the procedure.

After about 20 minutes, the anesthetic is reapplied to ensure the proper amount and optimal effectiveness. This is also the moment when the jewelry can be chosen. For children, there is usually a warm and friendly interaction between the professional and the child to build trust and help them understand what will happen next.

The Piercing

Once the waiting time is complete, the ear is cleaned again, the earlobe is carefully measured, and the neutral point is marked for precise placement. Just before the piercing, a brief application of ice is used.

The piercing itself is performed using the Studex System 75 applicator, which is gentle, hand-pressure controlled, and completely silent — in many cases, babies who are sleeping do not even wake up. The piercing process takes only a few seconds.

Aftercare & Follow-Up

Afterward, detailed aftercare instructions are provided. Clients have full access to me for the following 30 days, which is a crucial healing period.

Appointment Duration

  • Babies and children: up to 1 hour and 30–45 minutes
