Earring Aftercare Instructions

January 6, 2026Bruna

Congratulations on your new ear piercing! Proper aftercare is essential for a smooth healing process. Follow these instructions carefully to ensure your piercing heals properly.

How to Clean the Earring

  • Begin cleaning only after the 3rd day following the piercing. Clean once a day during the shower for 7 days.
  • Apply liquid soap until it lathers, gently rotate the jewelry, let it sit for a few seconds, and rinse thoroughly. Make sure no residue or discharge remains.
  • Move the jewelry only during the shower with warm water, as this makes it easier to remove any buildup.
  • Clean only once a day. Over-cleaning may damage new cell formation. Remember, your piercing is still healing.
  • Avoid touching the earring with dirty hands, as this increases the risk of infection.

Normal Healing Process

It's important to know what to expect during the healing period:

  • Mild itching or redness may occur for a few weeks.
  • Clear discharge or small crusts may form around the piercing. This is NOT pus — it is a normal part of healing.
  • Mild swelling may occur, making the jewelry feel tighter or harder to move.
  • Avoid hats, high-collared clothing, and loose-knit blankets.
  • Friction from tight or heavy clothing or excessive movement may cause irritation, redness, keloid formation, or even rejection.
  • Keep hair tied back during the first few days to prevent pulling or snagging.
  • Change pillowcases every 2–3 days to reduce bacteria exposure.

What NOT to Apply

Do not use any of the following on your piercing:

  • Alcohol
  • Hydrogen peroxide
  • Antiseptic solutions (e.g., Merthiolate)
  • Ointments or creams (such as antibiotic or healing ointments)
  • Any product not recommended by your professional

When to Change the Jewelry

Once a month, gently push the earring forward and check if there is still space between the earring and the earlobe. When the space is gone, it's time to change the jewelry.
